NAPOLEONVILLE, La. (AP) — A Louisiana woman was arrested after sheriff’s deputies spotted her trying to hand off a package of drugs to an inmate being escorted through a courthouse, a sheriff’s office announced Wednesday.

Deputies were walking a group of inmates from a parish courtroom last week when they reported seeing Cathy Coreyell Phillip, 26, try to hand an inmate a package suspected of containing drugs, Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon said in a statement.

Phillip ran away as deputies tried to confront her, but she was later arrested and booked into jail on charges of attempting to introduce contraband to a detention center as well as resisting officers, the statement said. She has since been released on bond, news outlets reported.

Investigators didn’t say how Phillip knew the inmate she’s accused of trying to give drugs to. It’s unclear whether she has an attorney who can comment on her behalf.
