BALL, La. – During the early morning hours of Thursday, June 20th, a severe thunderstorm moved through the Parish producing an EF 1 tornado (winds estimated at 60-94) that caused heavy damage in the Town of Ball.

Approximately 2000 residents lost power due to damage sustained to both of the power plants that feed the Town of Ball. Cleco has been and continues to work diligently to restore power to those plants. It is hopeful that they will have power back to one, however, the other is not expected to be back in service until Friday if possible: As of 2pm today (Thursday), 900 customers have been restored on the north side of the town of Ball. The remaining residents on the south side of the town of Ball, will be down possibly through tomorrow (Friday) or Saturday due to the extensive damage.

Damage assessments are still underway as there are numerous homes and businesses that sustained damage. Thankfully no injuries were reported.

Crews will continue to work throughout the remainder of today and tomorrow until cleanup and services are restored. Residents should be prepared to make necessary arrangements should power not be fully restored today.

Residents are asked to please use caution when working around downed lines. Further, if you do not have to be on the roadways, please do not sight see as the additional and unnecessary traffic will only slow down the clean-up process.

The Town of Ball would like to express appreciation to the Fire Dept, Police Dept., Public Works Crews as well as our partners: City of Pineville (Mayor Fields), Rapides Parish Police Jury (Bubba Moreau, Dist.
