SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Thirteen days after 43-year-old Alonzo Bagley was fatally shot in the chest by 23-year-old Shreveport Police Officer Alexander Tyler. Bagley’s family, joined by their attorney, gathered to speak to local media Thursday afternoon.

Members of Bagley’s family and their attorney met privately with Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux to review the footage. Louisiana State Police led the investigation into Bagley’s fatal shooting.

Attorney Ron Haley addressed the media with the family. Haley shared that police training does not take away the fear Black and brown people have.

“That’s what we had here Mr. Bagely was not a threat to anyone, if anyone he was a threat to himself,” Attorney Ron Haley said.

Body cam footage shows that in a matter of 66 seconds, Bagley was fatally shot in the chest by Tyler.

“There is a use of force continuum for a reason, you don’t get to go from zero to a hundred.”

Chief Smith has thanked the LSP for investigating the shooting as an independent third party.

Alonzo Bagley’s funeral is scheduled for Saturday, February 18, 2023.
