La. Tech’s Taylor continues to prove doubters wrong

Skip Holtz said, “Once Trent is gone and away from here, you’re going to look back and go ‘Wow! That was a pretty special time.'”

As a fan sitting here at the Joe in one of these nice cushy seats, watching a Louisiana Tech football game, one thing is almost a sure bet. And that’s is finding senior receiver Trent Taylor right here in the Bulldog endzone catching a touchdown pass.

In fact, Taylor has 30 touchdowns in his career with the Bulldogs, and back in October the senior from Evangel became the all-time reception leader at Louisiana Tech.

Trent Taylor said, “The day it happened in the game, it was a wonderful feeling, and the fact that it happened at Joe Aillet Stadium in front of all the fans was wonderful.”

But when Taylor was at Evangel not many expected him to have this career. In fact he received just a single Division I offer coming out of high school, from the Bulldogs.

Taylor said, “I knew coming to Louisiana Tech that I had a lot to prove. Nothing was going to be given to me. I had to go out there and work for it and take everything. That’s the kind of mindset you’ve got to have to be successful at this level.”

That was Skip Holtz’s first recruiting class at Tech. He knew there was something special about the 5-8 receiver.

Skip Holtz said, “When everybody starts to get into recruiting, they want to recruit height, weight, size, speed. What Trent has are all of those intangible things. The one thing you can’t measure in a football player are those intangibles and your heart, and that’s what he’s got which is what makes him such a great player.”

And the gamble for the Bulldogs has paid off. Taylor has gone on to be one of the best ever at Tech, and will be playing on Sunday’s next season. Something he’s always wanted to do.

Trent Taylor said, “Going to the NFL was always a dream of mine. Being successful at the college level has always been a dream of mine, and somehow through the grace of God I’ve been able to do that so far here at this college level. Hopefully this dream can continue to happen possibly going on to the next level.
