Sheriff Sam Craft announces the July 2, 2015 arrest of Marty Carroll, age 43, of Pitkin.
The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted on June 30, 2015 by a citizen who indicated that Marty Carroll was hired by her to do some mechanic and construction work at her residence.
The victim indicated that she left town for a week after the agreement was made.
The victim indicated that upon her return she found numerous items missing from her residence and storage buildings. The stolen property included hand tools, power tools, firearms, cross bows, and saddles.
Deputies arrived at the location and the victim provided an inventory of the stolen property which was valued at approximately $16,000.00.
The victim indicated that Marty Carroll had been provided with keys to her residence so that he could complete the agreed upon work.
The victim also indicated that she provided a vehicle for Carroll to use during the course of the work.
Deputies at the scene did not observe any type of forced entry into the residence.
The victim did indicate that the vehicle used by Carroll was found to be damaged upon her return.
The victim was later contacted by persons who indicated that they had in fact purchased items, believed to be the property of the victim, from Marty Carroll.
Several items were returned to the victim at that time.
Deputies canvassed the area but were unable to locate Marty Carroll at the time. Deputies and Detectives did speak with numerous acquaintances of Carroll while attempting to locate him.
On July 2, 2015 Marty Carroll presented himself to the Criminal Division of the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Carroll did admit to taking several of the items but denied the theft of the firearms.
Carroll was arrested and booked into the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office on one count of Theft over $5,000.00, one count of Simple Burglary, and one count of Criminal Damage to Property. Bond was set at $25,000.00 on these charges.
Carroll was additionally arrested on outstanding warrants as follows, two counts of Issuing Worthless Checks, one count of Theft, and one count of Criminal Damage to Property. Bond was set at $2500.00 on the outstanding warrants.
Marty Carroll did post bond and was released on July 6, 2015.
