Statistics show New Year’s Eve is one of the busiest nights of the year when it comes to alcohol-related illness and injury.

So doctors at Vanderbilt University have some tips on how to ring in 2016 … safely.

Before you head out for the evening — be sure to have a designated driver who will not drink at all.

Have a clear plan on how to get your children home safely — if they are attending an event with alcohol.

And if you’re hosting a party — keep an eye on your friends. Don’t let them leave if they’re intoxicated.

Finally – know how much is too much — and remember that alcohol impairs your judgment.
