Suspect sought in shooting at Lafayette apartment complex

UPDATE: The second victim, 23 year old Linton Batiste, from Sunday’s shooting at an apartment complex on Merchants Blvd. has died from his injuries.

Detectives are still looking for the shooter, Tavis Jenkins.

The investigation remains ongoing.

ORIGINAL: Lafayette Police need your help to find the suspect in yesterday’s shooting at an apartment complex in the 200 block of Merchants Boulevard.

21 year old Tavis Jenkins of Alexandria has been charged with 1st degree murder and 2 counts of attempted 1st degree murder.

Jenkins is accused of killing 17 year old Antonio Means and critically injuring a 23 year old male.

Corporal Paul Mouton says the incident was a domestic situation.

“Information from the inside indicates that Jenkins was the ex-boyfriend of the resident. He entered the apartment without authorization and was met by the new boyfriend. During the exchange, we believe Jenkins fired multiple shots.” said Mouton.

Anyone with information on Jenkins whereabouts should call Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
