At approximately 1:49 A.M. on Saturday, March 12, 2016 – the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office dispatch received numerous calls from the Grundy Cooper area stating they heard loud noises outside their residences, possibly a wreck, as there was a vehicle in the ditch at Bayou Rapides and Cooper Road.

One caller reported seeing a male subject armed with a handgun in his front yard.

Deputies responded and arrived within a few minutes to find two victims of gunshot wounds, one on Carol Street and one on Sarah Street. Both victims were rendered aid as other deputies arrived to look for a suspect.

An APD canine unit also responded to assist in the search. The deputies, along with the canine, located the suspect in a field adjacent to the Alexandria Country Day School.

The suspect, identified as Eric Wayne Burnaman, 36 years old of Boyce, surrendered to deputies and was taken into custody without further incident. Sheriff’s detectives and crime scene unit officials responded to the scene and conducted their investigation.

The victims were transported to a local hospital by Acadian Ambulance where they were treated and released earlier Saturday.

Detectives booked Burnaman for:

  • 1 Count – Attempted First Degree Murder,
  • Aggravated Battery,
  • Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession CDS II with intent to distribute.

Detectives say the investigation is still ongoing and more arrests are possible.
