WHAT: 2016 Tourism Awareness & Awards Luncheon

WHERE: Alexandria Riverfront Center, 707 Second Street, Alexandria, LA
WHY: May is National Tourism Awareness Month. Central Louisiana is celebrating on Wednesday, May 4, with the annual Tourism Awareness & Awards Luncheon. The APACVB will have an awards presentation and update on the tourism economic impact in the area by the Convention & Visitors Bureau. Keynote speaker for the event will be Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser.
The awards presentation will include the H.E.A.R.T. Award, an award given to a person or entity that helps encourage art, recreation, and tourism in Central Louisiana; Partnership of the Year Award, an award to an organization that has helped in the promotion and growth of tourism in Rapides Parish; Art, Culture, Heritage, and Education Award, an award given to an entity that promotes tourism through educational and cultural opportunities to the community; the Chuck Saucier Ambassador of the Year Award; and the Jimmy Williams Spirit of Community Award.
Alexandria is one stop on a statewide tour for the Lt. Governor. Nungesser is traveling on a mini coach, wrapped in Louisiana Travel’s latest tourism campaign and statistics, celebrating National Tourism week.
The purpose of the tour is to create awareness about the tourism industry and the impact it has on the state. Tourism is a $10.7 billion industry in Louisiana and one in 10 Louisianans is employed in the hospitality industry.
The event is open to the public with the purchase of a ticket or a table sponsorship. Tickets to the luncheon are $15 and sponsor tables are $300.
