Governor-elect John Bel Edwards says he plans to remove work requirements for those receiving food stamps.

Edwards will seek a federal waiver of the work requirements when he takes office on January 11.

The Jindal administration let a federal waiver of work requirements expire on October 1.

Adults aged 18 to 49 without children will soon have to work at least 20 hours per week or be enrolled in a federally-approved job training program to receive food stamps.

A lawsuit has been filed challenging the requirements.

Over 30,000 people stand to lose benefits due to the requirements.
