The City of Leesville reminds its residents that pets must be properly controlled within the city limits.
City Ordinance requires that residents must exercise proper care and control of their animals to prevent them from becoming a public nuisance.
Specifically, dogs, when not caged, in a fenced yard, indoors, or tethered, are required to be under control of the owner by leash, tethered, or other physical means of control so as not to present a nuisance or danger to the public.
Whoever violates any provision of this article, or fails or neglects to perform any duty imposed by it, shall be fined not less than $25.00 nor more than $200.00 and the cost of prosecution, or imprisoned for not more than 30 days, or both.
The City encourages residents who are animal owners to familiarize themselves with all City ordinances pertaining to animals within the City limits. Ordinances can be accessed online at: https://www.municode.com/library/la/leesville/codes/code_of_ordinances.
Ordinances can also be viewed at City Hall by request.
