APD arrests man involved in police chase

On December 2, 2015 A.P.D. Detectives arrested James D. Minor Sr. 58 of Alexandria, in connection with the below referenced investigation and charged him with:

1 Count – Attempted First Degree Murder
1 Count – Aggravated Flight From a Officer
1 Count – Reckless Operation
2 Counts – Battery on an Officer
2 Counts – Hit and Run
1 Count – Theft under $750.00

Following a psychiatric evaluation, Minor was released from a local hospital and taken into custody. Minor was transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Center for booking.

Police Chase:

On Friday, November 27, 2015, at approximately 2 p.m., Officers responded to a family disturbance in the 2600 block of Overton Street.

During the investigation one of the individuals fled the scene in a vehicle – injuring an officer who was drug by his vehicle as the officer attempted to stop his escape. Additional officers joined the pursuit which detoured into the parking lot of APD HQ where the suspect rammed a police car and a police motorcycle. Another officer discharged his weapon at the vehicle as he was attempting to ram the police motorcycle.

No one was struck by the discharge.

The suspect then fled where he crashed into another police car in the 2600 block of Lee Street. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital where he was admitted for psychiatric evaluation.

Total – Three officers suffered minor injuries.

Two were treated and released at the scene.

Another was treated and released at a local hospital.

In accordance with standard procedure, Louisiana State Police will assist and shadow the investigation regarding the discharge of a police weapon. The officer who discharged a weapon has not been placed on Administrative Leave or Modified Duty as of this release.

The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time due to the hospitalization – criminal charges are pending.
