Alexandria rated eighth 'most dangerous city' in 2018

ALEXANDRIA, La. (WNTZ) - Alexandria was ranked the eighth most dangerous U.S. city of 2018, according to a recent report from community search engine and data provider NeighborhoodScout.

According to the report, among Alexandria's 47,382 residents, one out of every 54 people may be a victim of violent crime, and one out of every 12 people may be a victim of property crime.

NeighborhoodScout looked at the number of all crimes per capita, including murder, rape, armed robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, property theft and motor vehicle theft per 1,000 residents reported to the FBI. Cities with 25,000 or more residents were included in the list. Crime data used for the report were from 2016, and the data was released in late 2017.

Alexandria in the last five years has made the top 15 on the NeighborhoodScout annual list.  From #36 in 2013, the city has ranked #3 in 2017, #4 in 2016, #11 in 2015 and #14 in 2014.

Four other Louisiana cities made the list of the top 100 dangerous cities this year -- Baton Rouge at #86, Shreveport at #84, New Orleans at #59 and Monroe at the top spot.
