Celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

National

Bells in churches and communities across the nation rang 39 times starting at 6:01 pm April 4, 2018.

Each tolling of the bell symbolized Doctor Martin Luther King Juniors age when he was assassinated in Memphis 50 years ago.

King came to Memphis to fight for the sanitation workers union and was shot to death at the Lorraine Motel.

Congressman John Lewis marched and fought with King for equal rights and said remembering him and living by his teachings means hope for the future.

Lewis said “He taught us how to live. He taught us how to stand up, to be brave, courageous and bold and to never give up.”
