Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office makes arrest in second degree murder case

Local News

Sheriff Sam Craft of the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office announces the Tuesday, June 23, 2015 arrest of Amber D. Lisotta, age 30, of Leesville.

The Vernon Parish 911 Communications Center was contacted by a male subject at approximately 7:24 a.m.

The caller advised that there was a deceased male individual at a residence on Tilley Road which is located in the area of Jeane Chapel Extension.

Deputies and Detectives responded to the location and observed a deceased male, later identified as Timothy Prather, age 51.

It did appear to investigators that the male did suffer a gunshot wound to the chest and that the male had been deceased inside the residence for a period of time prior to the discovery of his body.

The scene was secured and the VPSO evidence technician arrived at the location with the VPSO Crime Scene Unit so that a forensic examination of the residence could be conducted.

The Vernon Parish District Attorney’s Office was also notified of the incident and an assistant district attorney responded to the scene.

The scene was photographed and video recorded prior to the collection of evidentiary items.  Detectives processed the scene for several hours and were able to collect biological and physical evidence.

Detectives learned that the individual who contacted 911 was in fact the employer of the victim.  It was learned that the victim failed to appear for work on Monday and the employer traveled to the residence on Tuesday in an effort to make contact with Prather.

It was learned that when the caller initially arrived at the residence he made contact with a female known only to him by the name of “Amber”.  The female was inside the residence and answered the door after the caller knocked on the door for a period of time.

The caller advised that the female was inside the residence when he exited the home to call 911.

The female apparently fled the scene by utilizing the back door of the residence prior to the arrival of law enforcement.

Items located during the forensic processing of the residence led investigators to believe that the female who fled the scene could be Amber Lisotta.

Detectives prepared photo line-ups and witnesses were able to confirm, through the viewing of the lineups, that the identity of the female was in fact Amber Lisotta.

The Vernon Parish Coroner’s Office did arrive at the residence and at that time an examination of the body was conducted and it was confirmed that the victim had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest most likely from a long gun.

During the processing of the scene, a firearm which is believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered and secured, into evidence.

Detectives worked throughout the day to obtain additional information relating to Lisotta as well as statements from persons affiliated with the victim.

Amber Lisotta was located and taken into custody by Detectives without incident at 6:00 p.m. in Leesville.

During the course of an interview with Lisotta she did admit to Detectives that she had in fact shot Timothy Prather.

Amber Lisotta was arrested and booked into the Vernon Parish Jail on one count of Second Degree Murder.  No bond has been set at the time of this release.

The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office works jointly with the North Louisiana Crime Lab and various evidentiary items will be submitted to the lab for forensic examination.
