The free screenings are available from 8am until noon on the 2nd floor of University Health’s Ambulatory Care Center, at the intersection of Kings Highway and Linwood Avenue.
The free screening is spearheaded by LSU Associate Professor and Gynecologic Oncology Division Chief, Dr. William Roy. Patients do not have to schedule an appointment.
January is National Cervical Cancer Awareness month.
The following information is provided by University Health in a statement:
Every year, more than 10,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with cervical cancer. More than 4,000 women die from the disease.
Early detection is the key, if detected early, cervical cancer has a survival rate that is higher than 90%. All women between the ages of 21 to 65 should get a pap test. Your age and other factors determine the frequency of the test.
