Theatre Louisiana College and LC Opera present Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance, ” a high energy, comedic musical for the whole family to enjoy.

The event opened March 10, 2016 and has several more performances scheduled: March 17-19 at 7 P.M.; then March 20, at 2 P.M.

The Pirates of Penzance, one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular works, first premiered in New York City in 1879. The comic operetta of unfortunate events stars Frederic, who, having completed his 21st year, is released from his apprenticeship with a band of tender-hearted pirates. Upon his release, he meets Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley; the two fall instantly in love. Due to an unexpected turn of events, Frederic must serve for another 63 years with the pirates. Bound by his own sense of duty, Frederic’s only solace is that Mabel agrees to wait for him faithfully.
