Paragon associates collect essentials for pets in crisis

Local News

Associates at Paragon Casino Resort joined with volunteers from the Avoyelles Animal Welfare Society (AAWS), donating several hundred pounds of food and other pet essentials during a two-month-long drive benefitting the local shelter.

The mission of AAWS is to provide medical care, food and shelter to abandoned and abused animals in Avoyelles Parish. The ultimate goal is to prepare the pets to be adopted back into “forever homes”.

The shelter is the only no-kill facility in Avoyelles Parish.

Items donated by associates included cat and dog food and treats, pet toys, beds, towels, blankets, leashes, collars, pet carriers, food and water bowls, and other essentials for pets and pet owners.

Paragon associate Darlene Gormsen, Voilà gift shop clerk and animal lover, is an active board member and volunteer at the shelter. “AAWS staff and board members were extremely excited to receive the generous donations from the Paragon staff,” she said. “We’re grateful to everyone who took part.”

AAWS is a small facility, and currently at maximum capacity. For information on adoption, or to make a donation, please visit Avoyelles Animal Welfare Society online, or call 318-876-2068.
