Wednesday, June 27 is National PTSD Awareness Day and six wounded vets are walking through Louisiana to garner attention for the issue of military mental health.
Beyond raising awareness, organizers said walkers would like to “raise vital funds to support British and American wounded veterans.”
The Walk of America team consists of six veterans and their names are, Frankie Perez, CPL, US Army National Guard, Adele Loar, Msgt, US Air Force, Larry Hinkle, Sgt, US Marine Corps, Kev Carr, Royal Logistic Corps, Kemsley Whittlesea, Royal Signals and Jonny Burns, Royal Anglian.
The walk will begin in Lake Charles on Wednesday with stops scheduled in Lafayette, Henderson, Baton Rouge, South Baton Rouge, and South Kenner.
According to organizers, Louisiana is only a small part of the journey as “the grueling 12 week walk, organized by UK military charity Walking With The Wounded, will see a team of intrepid veterans walk a total of 1,000 miles across America this summer. The expedition started in Los Angeles on June 2 and is due to end in NYC on September 6.”
The Louisiana part of the walk will end on Saturday, June 30 in Houma with a 16.5 mile walk.
