Nexstar Broadcasting will celebrate its 20th anniversary on June 17. In celebration of the anniversary, its 4500 employees will join together in a day of giving to the communities each station serves.
“When I started the company almost twenty years ago, we started off with one television station serving one marketplace,” Nexstar CEO and President Perry Sook said. “We have grown to a company with over a hundred television stations serving over sixty markets.”
Sook said he wants to celebrate that growth and the company’s 20th anniversary on June 17 by giving back to the communities that have helped build this company.
Nexstar stations across the country will give back to local causes on June 17 and for every hour of volunteer service, the company will donate to that organization. For example, if a market contributes a total of 800 services hours to an organization, Nexstar will donate $800.00 to that charity.
As a proud member of Nexstar Broadcasting, the staff of WNTZ FOX 48 and CenLANow.com will be volunteering their time assisting the Food Bank of Central Louisiana. Employees will be volunteering at the food bank doing everything from organizing to packing boxes.
“We’re very proud to be a part of Nexstar’s community initiative,” said Aleece Way, station manager of WNTZ FOX 48. “As part of the initiative, we’re very excited to help the Food Bank of Central Louisiana assist their mission by ending hunger in Central Louisiana. No one in our area should go hungry, and we will do what we can to help.”
The Food Bank of Central Louisiana is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to alleviate hunger in Central Louisiana. The Food Bank distributes food and grocery products to needy families through a network of approved charitable agencies in eleven parishes: Allen, Avoyelles, Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, LaSalle, Natchitoches, Rapides, Sabine, Vernon and Winn.
To be eligible for food items, one must fall within the poverty levels set by the federal government. Food is channeled through more than 104 member agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other nonprofit organizations. The Food Bank distributes more than 6.9 million pounds of food to Central Louisiana each year. This is estimated to serve more than 22,400 needy people per month.
The Food Bank of Central Louisiana is by far the most important source of food for agencies with emergency food providers, accounting for 90% of the food distributed by pantries, 35% of the food distributed by kitchens, and 49% of the food distributed by shelters.
For organizations such as the Food Bank of Central Louisiana, every donation counts.
On June 17, FOX 48 viewers can also participate by making a donation to the Food Bank, either by financial donation, or through volunteering time to one of the many programs the Food Bank provides to the community.
