BATON ROUGE, La. (LSU Athletics) - The second-ranked LSU gymnastics team extended its win streak in the Maravich Center to 24-straight meets with a 197.425-195.425 win over No. 11 Missouri Friday night.
The Tigers improved to 5-0 and 4-0 in the conference with the win. LSU has now earned a team score of 197 or better in 13-straight meets. The streak is one shy of the record 14 set between the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
Individually, LSU swept all five events on the night. Senior Ashleigh Gnat and junior Myia Hambrick took the vault title. Sophomore Ruby Harrold captured her first individual title with a 9.875 on bars. Sarah Finnegan secured the beam title and Gnat added win number 46 for her career with a 9.95 on floor.
D-D Breaux on the Win over Missouri
“We really struggled tonight for everything,” head coach D-D Breaux said. “We had breaks tonight and left a lot of points out there. There was a lot of difficulty in our routines, and it was almost as though we were intimidated by ourselves. The crowd was great and there was a lot of energy in the building tonight. To have this kind of meet and still put out that kind of score is a plus.”
Hambrick, Gnat Stick Vaults to Start
Hambrick and Gnat paced the Tigers with scores of 9.950 with stuck landings to earn the titles. Lexie Priessman and Sydney Ewing totaled scores of 9.85 each. Sarah Finnegan and Kennedi Edney shared 9.80s on vault. LSU totaled a 49.400 on the event to start things off.
Harrold Wins First Career Bars Title
Harrold captured her first career individual title with a 9.875 to help the Tigers to team score of 49.250. Hambrick, Priessman and Edney all tied for second on the night with scores of 9.85. Senior Shae Zamardi and Finnegan also totaled scores of 9.825 for the Tigers.
Finnegan Shines with Beam Title
Finnegan nailed her triple wolf turn to start out strong and total a 9.95. Hambrick finished second on the night with a 9.90 to tie her season high. Edney earned a 9.85 and Ewing added a 9.825 for the Tigers. Gnat anchored the beam lineup with a 9.80.
Gnat Closes out Floor
Gnat won the 15th floor title of her career with a 9.95 in the anchor spot. Hambrick finished second on the event with a 9.90. Edney and Ewing followed with scores of 9.85 and 9.825 respectively.
The Tigers return to the floor for their third road SEC meet of the season at 7:30 p.m. CT on Friday, February 10 against Arkansas. The matchup between the Razorbacks and Tigers will be streamed live on WatchESPN.com and the app.
