OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KTVE) - It's turning into a war of words between Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards, and Senator John Kennedy.
Kennedy came out swinging against the governor and his handling of funds awarded to the state for flood recovery this past fall.
Kennedy says it's difficult to lobby for more recovery funding when the governor has more than one billion dollars that Kennedy says it just sitting in a bank, waiting to be spent.
"The governor needs to get that money out of that bank account into the hands of our people... I don't mean to be too critical or point the finger, but dog gone it, the governor is the chief executive officer of this state... by God, get them the money!"
Kennedy says he doesn't have the ammunition he needs to get more funding, citing situations where he's spoken to colleagues who ask if we've spent the money we currently have. Kennedy says when he answers 'no', they tell him spend that money, then ask for more.
