SABINE PARISH, La. (WVLA / WGMB) - Toledo Bend Reservoir has earned a spot in the top five bass fishing lakes throughout the central portion of the U.S.
This is the third time Toledo Bend has ranked among the best lakes to bass fish in the country in recent years.
“Toledo Bend is a first-class fishing experience located right here in Louisiana. With the record bass being caught in our reservoir, fishermen would not want to go anywhere else in the country to catch bass. We are the Sportsman’s Paradise after all,” Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser said.
Located in Sabine Parish along the Texas and Louisiana border, Toledo Bend has been the number one spot for bass fishing in the country the past two years and has been producing large, double digit pound bass all year long.
In addition, Toledo Bend is also part of the recently launched Louisiana Bass Trail. Established in April 2017, the Louisiana Bass Trail brings fisherman to other parts of the state with one of the premier stops being Toledo Bend due to its national rankings and its record bass. The Bass Trail showcases the State Park system and the great fishing that can be done in North Louisiana. Participants can sign-up for a Bassport and as they fish the seven lakes that are participating. They can also earn a t-shirt and #OnlyLouisiana swag.
Toledo Bend also has a Lunker Bass Program. This program was established to keep the lake restocked naturally. When a fish is caught, the fish can be tagged and thrown back for others to catch. It’s the best natural conservation effort in the country, and many of the fish have been caught time and again.
Toledo Bend is located along the Louisiana-Texas border in Sabine Parish. It was named the top bass fishing lake in the country in 2015 and 2016, a record breaking two times by Bassmaster Magazine. It is also part of the State Park system and a part of the Louisiana Bass Trail.
